Gernika walking tour
You might wonder where Guernica in Spain is located but you might well have heard of the name? Located near Bilbao, we remember in our history about the dark days of the infamous Guernica bombing attacks, followed three days later upon Eibar.
This was one of the darkest episodes during the Spanish Civil War, and as you may have heard about it, this aerial citizens attack inspired world-famous Guernica 1937 painting by Picasso. Visiting Guernica (Gernika in Basque) is an amazing trip through the history of the Basque Country.
Guernica in Spain: from the horror to the Basque honour and history
We will visit the Gernika Peace Museum, and take a relaxed walking tour through the city. We will learn of the importance Gernika achieved during 20th century as a political centre and official meeting point from where to work and build the current autonomy state of the Basque Country.
We will visit the Assembly House and outside the Assembly House we will “assemble” around probably the smallest, but at the same time biggest, symbols of the Basque people and the unique identity, of the Basque Country. It is the Gernika Tree, an individual symbols of Basque identity that every Basque should visit at least once in their lifetime.
